In 2017 an informal group calling itself the Johns Creek Visual + Performing Arts Task Force surveyed select business and arts organizations to gauge interest in a new facility for visual and performing arts. The surveyed groups were supportive.
In 2018, the Council approved the Convention and Visitors Bureau request to spend Tourism Product Development funds to do an analysis of the current environment for arts in Johns Creek, the feasibility of a new center from a market perspective, and make component suggestions for a cultural arts center based on the needs of existing groups and the market realities.
The study concluded a $50M facility would meet the community desires.
In 2019, Fulton County funded a capital campaign feasibility study for the anticipated $50M facility. The study conducted interviews with individuals representing a broad cross-section of business and community leaders and suggested a public-private partnership in which the City leads and provides the funding for the facility could be a successful approach.
The Legacy Center group is working to conduct an economic impact study and update financial information for both the anticipated capital expenditure and operational expenses.
