The initial Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) was approved as a five-year implementation concluding on March 31, 2022. Voters approved an extension of the TSPLOST (or TSPLOST II) as part of the November 2021 election. The TSPLOST II collections began on April 1, 2022. Over the five-year implementation, the City is anticipated to receive $65.5 million in revenues if collections align with expectations.
To utilize the funding to improve the City’s transportation system, Council established five program areas for investment:
- $6.5 million for bridges
- $14.2 million for traffic congestion relief
- $3.5 million for landscape / streetscape improvements
- $16.2 million for operations and safety projects, and
- $16.5 million for pedestrian / bike improvements.
The initial projects in each area were reviewed and discussed by Council in April 2022. These projects are anticipated to use $46.9 million of the total anticipated $65.5 million revenues, meaning additional projects are anticipated to be added over the implementation of the five-year program.
