December 2017

As we prepare to close out another great year in the City of Johns Creek, I want to be sure you are aware of an exciting new event we have added to the calendar.  The City will host its first ever International Festival on Saturday April, 21 across from the Atlanta Athletic Club which is the same location as our annual Arts Festival.

It may seem early for me to discuss this unique event; however, time is limited for those wishing to participate in one of the many offerings the festival has in store.  While the theme of the event - Taste of the World – will certainly attract some of the area’s best cuisine and beverages in the international beer and wine garden, the festival is also designed to showcase international merchandise and art vendors, as well as performances representing many cultures.  We will even include a “kids corner” for those of younger ages to get some hands on experience with cultural art.

Our community is blessed with such rich cultural diversity.  At nearly 25 percent international, Johns Creek is the 9th most diverse small city in the nation.  From the exceptional schools within our City and our many places of worship, to our diverse restaurants and our many well attended community events, our residents comprise nearly every continent in the world.

Regardless of backgrounds and beliefs, like-minded residents are continuously drawn to Johns Creek by one or more of our strong attributes including great schools, a safe and welcoming environment, or for the overall premier residential living.

The idea behind the Johns Creek International Festival – Taste of the World, grew out of our Cultural Diversity Task Force last year.  As stated in the Task Force charter, the purpose of the Cultural Diversity Task Force was to identify ways to embrace the many cultural ethnicities of Johns Creek.

The main focus of the task force was to foster a holistic sense of community across Johns Creek while highlighting the City’s cultural and ethnic diversity.  The task force envisioned the festival as a way to increase the awareness of, and to celebrate different cultures and traditions found in Johns Creek and the metro area.
The Johns Creek International Festival will also serve as yet another fun, inclusive way to draw the community together. This event will provide a unique opportunity for residents and the broader community to learn about and experience different cultures through the sharing of food, performance art, and more.

I hope that you will add this exciting event to your own personal and family calendars, as well as share the information with your friends and neighbors.  Our City Staff, Leadership Johns Creek, the Johns Creek Art Center, and the Convention and Visitors Bureau are well down the road with planning and organizing the festival, and have indicated that vendors and performance artists are already signing up to participate.

I believe this will truly be a special event for our exceptional City and I hope to see you there.
