The Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation announces the award of six college scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each to the children of Johns Creek’s police officers and firefighters. A grant of $15,000 for use in funding these scholarships was generously contributed to the Foundation by Superior Essex, a Sandy Springs-based company. The scholarships were awarded to Bailey Clifton, attending University of Georgia; Harrison Hood, a Sequoyah High School Senior and tentatively attending Wingate University next year; Julie Johansen, attending Kennesaw State University; Kara Kalish, attending Georgia College & State University; Mary Meberg, attending Florida State University; and Cole Tyson, attending Kennesaw State University.
The scholarship application included an essay by each of the students on the impact of their parent’s career in public safety. Steve Broadbent, Chairman of the Public Safety Foundation, stated, “It’s clear from the essays the police officer and firefighter parents of these students had an impressive impact on these exceptional students. They all excel academically and are involved throughout their schools and communities.”
Brian Kim, CEO Superior Essex, said, “We are grateful for the opportunity to support these students in their college education. Superior Essex is proud to support the communities in which our employees live. As a Johns Creek resident, I am particularly impressed by the dedication of our Johns Creek firefighters and police officers throughout the community.”

About Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation
The Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation is a 501(c)3 entity with a primary mission of supporting the Johns Creeks’ (GA) firefighters and police officers who are injured in the line of duty and to assist their families if they are killed in the line of duty. A long-term disability or death of a public safety officer always generates extraordinary expenses and financial hardships that put a strain on the public safety officer and his/her family. The Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation provides financial support, especially with unexpected expenses not covered by typical employee benefit plans. The JCPS Foundation provides critical funds, like funeral expenses, medical expenses, and other necessary resources, when a death or illness causes a significant financial hardship to a fellow Johns Creek Fire and Police officer. Financial contributions to the Foundation from the community are welcome and can be made at https://jcpublicsafetyfoundation.org/donate.html.
