Meredith Corporation's
MONEY.com announced its annual
Best Places to Live list and the City of Johns Creek was selected as one of the top 20 cities in the nation. Selected as number 16 out of approximately 1,790 other cities and towns in the United States, Johns Creek was the highest ranked city in the state of Georgia and one of only three cities in the state to be included on the exclusive list.
The list, first published more than 30 years ago, takes into account each city's economic health, cost of living, diversity, public education, income, crime, ease of living and amenities, among other data points.
“This national recognition is a testament to our city’s overall safety, quality of life, and exceptional schools. Being ranked in the top 20 further underscores Johns Creek as a great place to live and a wonderfully inclusive place raise a family,” said Johns Creek Mayor Mike Bodker. “We are pleased to be the highest ranked city in the state of Georgia and the only city within the metro Atlanta area to make the 2019 annual ranking.”
MONEY's rankings include only places with populations of 50,000 or greater. Places with 300,000 or more people were broken down into neighborhoods, and from there the outlet considered only neighborhoods with estimated populations between 5,000 and 200,000. Places with more than double the national crime risk, less than 85% of its state's median household income, or a lack of ethnic diversity were screened out, resulting in 1,796 places.
More than 160,000 different data points were then collected to narrow the list, including economic health, cost of living, ethnic and economic diversity, public education, income, health and safety, ease of living and amenities. The greatest weight was given to economic factors, housing, health and safety, diversity and cost of living. Quality of life, education and local amenities were also critical components. In a final step, MONEY reporters researched each place and interviewed residents in our top-ranking locations.
