The Georgia Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers named the Johns Creek Public Works Department the Agency of the Year for 2018. The award is bestowed annually to an agency which has distinguished itself through improvements in the field of transportation and for its commitment to the delivery of innovative and effective transportation solutions.
“The Johns Creek Public Works Department made significant transportation improvements in their City during the course of 2018,” said Marco Friend, Immediate Past President and Awards Committee Chair of the Georgia Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, in the award presentation at the annual meeting on Dec. 6, 2018.
Johns Creek Public Works Director Lynette Baker applauded the work of the Public Works Department for their efforts completing projects on-time and in-budget throughout the year. “From improving traffic signal technologies by upgrading signal control cabinets to sidewalk connectivity projects to roadway improvements, the Public Works Department is proud of its efforts to improve the transportation system in Johns Creek.”
Notable accomplishments in 2018 included the widening of Abbotts Bridge Road (from Jones Bridge Road to Parsons Road), signal replacements on Old Alabama Road, installation of Flashing Yellow Arrow signals on McGinnis Ferry Road, development and management of an advanced Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS) to synchronize signal timing and help balance traffic flow throughout the city, and construction of sidewalks on Parsons Road and Brumbelow Road.
