The Johns Creek City Council voted unanimously to authorize the purchase of 1.8 acres of land, which will be used as the site of a new fire station in the city.
The location of the property at 4795 Kimball Bridge Road, which comes at a cost of $379,000, was identified to improve response times in northern and central Johns Creek. With minimal land available to purchase in this strategic location, the City Council moved forward with the authorization recognizing this opportunity may not be as readily available in the future.
“We are very pleased with the support the City Council continues to provide with respect to public safety,” said City Manager Warren Hutmacher. “The purchase of this property ensures that we have locked in an appropriate location to design a fire station that improves service to the residents.”
More specifically, the new fire station will improve response times along Sargent Road, Jones Bridge Road north of Buice Road, McGinnis Ferry Road west of Medlock Bridge Road, Abbotts Bridge Road west of Medlock Bridge Road, and Kimball Bridge Road. Approximately 8,867 residents, who reside within this area, will be better served as a result of the new fire station.
The City operates three other fire stations, which were formerly operated by Fulton County and were in place at the time of incorporation in 2006. The three fire stations are located in the eastern and southern parts of the City. However, with the growth of the City, the Fire Department’s long term strategic plan recommends a fourth fire station.
The City Staff has a 60-day due diligence period before the purchase is finalized. The exact timeline for construction has yet to be determined. The City will present options to the City Council regarding resources required to operate the fourth fire station.
