Johns Creek City Council adopts new 2018 Comprehensive Plan

October 10, 2018

Johns Creek City Council adopts Comprehensive PlanJohns Creek City Council adopted the City’s 2018 Comprehensive Plan at its Oct. 8 meeting. The plan is an official policy document guiding the City’s future growth over the next 10 years.

The Plan is the culmination of two years of citizen feedback, surveys, and public workshops.  The community-led process created a document that seeks to preserve and protect residential neighborhoods and carefully manages future development growth within the City.

“Adoption of the Johns Creek 2018 Comprehensive Plan is a major achievement and represents the consensus of community stakeholders, property owners and elected officials for development of Johns Creek over the next 10 years,” said Community Development Director Sharon Ebert.

The plan identifies eight different character areas, which include: Autrey Mill, Johns Creek North, Medlock, Newtown, Ocee, River Estates, Shakerag, and Tech Park.  The adopted plan will guide and prioritize current and future projects within each of these areas.

Examples of prioritized projects include construction of the new park properties (purchased in 2016 and 2017) with Park Bond funds, improving the capacity of certain roadways, and studying the feasibility of roundabouts and left-turn lanes to improve traffic flow and increase safety while entering and exiting neighborhoods. The Plan will also help guide the development of potential Town Center concepts for the area located adjacent to the new City Hall and Linear Park.

With the adoption of the 2018 Comprehensive Plan, the City’s next steps will include the revision and fine-tuning of current zoning codes and the development of localized master plans to add architectural standards and greater specificity to the Plan’s established allowable heights, densities, uses, and visual examples of desired development.
