Newtown Park Fields close September 4

September 01, 2017

Newtown FieldThe City of Johns Creek will begin the process of converting two fields at Newtown Park to synthetic turf on Monday, Sept. 4.

The main soccer field and lacrosse field will close on Monday, Sept. 4 to begin preparations. The City has contracted with Turf USA, INC to oversee the installation of two turf fields at Newtown Park and one at Shakerag Park. Once construction begins, installation is anticipated to take up to 30 days, weather permitting.

Synthetic turf field installation is consistent with the recommendations of the Recreation and Parks Strategic Plan. Additionally, the new turf fields at both locations will allow the upcoming sports seasons to occur with minimal disruption and will enable leagues to increase their playtime in conditions that would have otherwise been lost to rain.
