Recreation and Parks Strategic Plan – Your input is needed!

May 05, 2015

park playgroundFrom the active programs to the passive nature preserve, Johns Creek has some great recreational and park areas but to best plan for the future and prioritize our investments, we need your help.

After spending the month of April gathering data and speaking with some of the current recreation providers, a planning team is gearing up to hear directly from park users.

At the end of this week, we’ll be mailing out 4,000 postcards to randomly selected households across the City. If you or anyone you know receives the postcard invitation – please type in the link, access code, and take the survey. If you don’t happen to receive a postcard invitation, we still want your feedback. An open access version of the survey is available here.

You’re also invited to attend the public workshop double-header on Monday, May 18. Both the daytime session and the nighttime session will begin with a short presentation followed by small-group exercises and discussions designed to solicit input and suggestions.
  • 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the Johns Creek Fire Station #62 - Community Room; 10925 Rogers Circle
  • 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the Park Place at Newtown Park; 3125 Old Alabama Rd
If the online survey or larger public meetings don’t work for you, over the next six weeks we’ll also have the consultant out at a table at Newtown Park at the Farmers Market (May 9),  during pre-movie festivities at Movies at Newtown Park (June 13), and during pre-concert festivities at the Amphitheater at Newtown Park (June 20).

With all of the input gathered, the consultant team will analyze and formulate their preliminary recommendations.  Those general concepts, alternatives, and preliminary ideas for recommendations will be presented at another public workshop double-header on Tuesday, July 21. The presentation will be followed by small-group exercises and discussions by the public.

You’re also welcome to share your thoughts directly with the project team, led by Kimberly Greer, Assistant City Manager by emailing Kimberly.Greer@JohnsCreekGA.gov or by calling 678-512-3200.

The draft plan is tentatively expected to be presented to the Mayor and City Council on Aug. 24 with a final plan possibly ready by the Sept. 14 regular City Council meeting. Both meetings will include opportunities for public comment.
