Veterans looking for camaraderie and a way to serve the community should attend the Johns Creek Veterans Association (JCVA) Membership Open House Feb. 21-22 at Park Place, 3150 Old Alabama Road, inside Newtown Park.
The Open House will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21 and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22. JCVA members will be on hand to answer questions about the organization and how to join. Pizza, snacks and drinks will be available.
The JCVA, founded in 2012, serves as an independent veterans group for social interaction tailored for military personnel. It also is a resource about veteran benefits and entitlements. Annual dues are $35. The JCVA meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month and starts with a grilled dinner at 6 p.m. with the business meeting starting at 7 p.m.
The JCVA has two social events each month. Past activities include Gwinnett Braves games, a North Georgia winery tour, trips to a gun range, lunches at local restaurants, and the annual Johns Creek Veterans Golf Tournament.
The JCVA's signature project has been the John Creek Veterans Memorial Walk at Newtown Park, dedicated on 4 acres near Park Place. The Veterans Walk serves as a contemplative place to reflect on the sacrifice and service of veterans and those still serving, and as a focal point for patriotic activities in Johns Creek.
Membership is open to all veterans. For more information, visit www.JohnsCreekGA.gov/JCVA or call JCVA President Wayne Kidd at 470-723-4272.
