Construction of a new roundabout at Bells and Boles roads in Johns Creek is set to start in February.
The roundabout will eliminate the risk of T-bone collisions and allow for greater traffic flow than the current configuration in which Boles Road dead-ends at Bell Road.
"We've had some serious accidents there," said Public Works Director Tom Black. "Roundabouts reduce the number of accidents, the severity of the accidents, and they allow traffic to move in all directions more efficiently."
The project should be complete by the fall. The intersection will remain open except for intermittent lane closures as work requires. Motorists should consider alternative routes.
The roundabout island and the approaches will be landscaped and illuminated with decorative lighting. Sidewalks and trails will be added along the roads for pedestrians.
The City also is planning to build a 2.5-acre pocket park at the intersection, possibly in 2016.
