Bell Road bridge at Cauley Creek closes to all but local traffic

October 28, 2015

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) advises that weather permitting, starting at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, Bell Road bridge at Cauley Creek is closed to all but local traffic through April 1, 2016, while GDOT replaces the bridge.

From Thursday, Oct. 29, to April 1, 2016, Bell Road will be reduced from two lanes to one lane where the road crosses over Cauley Creek. GDOT will install temporary traffic signals at either end of the bridge so traffic in each direction can alternate using the single open lane.

The replacement bridge will be wider with an 8-foot-wide trail on one side and a 5-foot-wide sidewalk on the other. GDOT rated the 54-year-old bridge as structurally deficient and in need of replacement. The project completion deadline is May 31.
