By popular demand, the City has added a fourth concert to its inaugural music season with Yacht Rock Schooner
set to play Sept. 27 at the Newtown Park Amphitheater
"It's been a really exciting first season," said Recreation Manager Kirk Franz. "People obviously enjoy having an open-air venue for live music so we decided to add another concert. We chose Yacht Rock Schooner because we want to offer a variety of music, and Yacht Rock Schooner is known for their smooth sounds from the 70s and 80s."
The popular eight-man band is composed of some of Atlanta's top players with a dual keyboard setup, multiple ace vocalists and a sax player. Their repertoire includes Steely Dan, Hall & Oates, Kenny Loggins, and Michael McDonald.
The Free Byrds
, a group of high school juniors, will open the show. The Free Byrds Band has played more than 100 concerts at Roswell's Alive After Five Festival, Hard Rock Café, and Smith's Olde Bar.
Enjoy the popular food truck Gotta Have It
, known for such world-beat dishes as beer-braised pork shank with an herbal Thai spring salad, salmon and crabmeat wraps with cucumber-jicama relish, and Sloppy Joes made with turkey meat. For dessert, there's King of Pops with their hand-crafted gourmet-flavored popsicles.
The Amphitheater opens at 6 p.m. and The Free Byrds start the show at 7 p.m. Yacht Rock Schooner plays at 8 p.m. There is no reserved seating, and tickets are not required for the music series. People are welcome to bring blankets and folding chairs. Coolers of food and drinks are permitted, but no alcohol, please.
The Amphitheater seats about 400 people under cover and an estimated 1,500 on its terraced law
