Morton Road projects to benefit walkers, motorists

March 21, 2014

Morton Road sidewalksResidents from several Johns Creek neighborhoods will be able to enjoy a new sidewalk project being built on Morton Road, which could be finished by early summer.

Along with the sidewalks, Johns Creek Public Works Department is adding a right-turn lane on Morton Road at its northern intersection at State Bridge Road. Morton Road east of Jones Bridge Road is horseshoe-shaped with two intersections at State Bridge Road.

The sidewalk project, estimated to total 4,300 feet, fills in several gaps and will create a continuous 2.3-mile path so walkers, joggers, and youngsters will be able to walk safely from neighborhood to neighborhood or to nearby commercial areas without having to go into the street.

The turn lane, which could be finished by late April, will improve the flow of traffic for people trying to leave the residential areas lining Morton Road.

Across State Bridge Road, Morton Road continues and swings north to Jones Bridge Road, where a signal light is being added. The signal is scheduled to be operative by early May, weather permitting. The City already added turn lanes and sidewalks at Morton and Jones Bridge Roads.
