Johns Creek releases new parks brochure, adds programs

February 24, 2014

2014 brochureIn advance of spring park activities, the Johns Creek Recreation and Parks Division has released its 2014 programs and events brochure with schedules for the rest of the year.

A description of all upcoming activities has been detailed in the newly released brochure, available at public libraries, City Hall, public schools, and at Park Place at Newtown School.

New this year is the Adaptive Recreation Program, designed to enrich the lives of people with disabilities. The programs – Batter-Up Tee Ball, Young Adult Bocce Ball, Family Bocce Ball and a Summer Kick-Off Picnic – help expose participants to new experiences, enhance self-esteem, self-confidence and promote community involvement.

The first major event of the year is the Spring Easter Egg Hunt on April 12, followed by a Pitch, Hit and Run competition and the North Fulton Golden Games, a month-long series of Olympic-style events and activities in May for adults age 50 or older.

Other special events include: the Farmers Market with its 20-plus vendors selling local produce and homemade goods; Movies at Newtown Park, a series of family friendly films shown outdoors at Newtown Park; and the Fall Family Festival, which offers a variety of games and entertainment.

The events calendar closes with the Founders Day Parade, a procession of floats, bands, and marchers commemorating the founding of the City; Santa Jam, a community party after the parade; and Breakfast with Santa.

The Recreation and Parks Division also sponsors an adult co-ed softball league, and the Johns Creek Aquatic Team for young swimmers.
