The Georgia Department of Transportation will start repairing and resurfacing the 4.2-mile section of Abbotts Bridge Road in Johns Creek on March 24. The project is expected to take about six weeks, weather permitting.
The contractor, C.W. Matthews, plans to start work at the river and move west. Repairs and repaving will be done from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. to minimize impact on traffic. Traffic will be narrowed to one lane where the work is being done. Flagmen and pilot cars will control traffic flow. The $1.26 million project is being paid for with federal and state funds.
Concurrently, the Johns Creek Public Works Department is adding 5-foot-wide sidewalks and a 370-foot-long boardwalk on the south side of Abbotts Bridge Road from Lorna Way to Aylesbury Farm.
These improvements are the beginning of the City's long-term plans (2015-2017) for Abbotts Bridge Road, which include widening and intersection improvements.
A Public Open House to discuss the long term plans was held in February and another is scheduled to be held sometime in May.
