The June 28 opening of the Newtown Park Amphitheater featuring the Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra drew hundreds to the first in the 2014 Summer Concert Series.
Mayor Mike Bodker kicked off the festivities with a ribbon cutting ceremony that included Congressman Jack Kingston, State Sen. John Albers, State Rep. Lynne Riley, Fulton County Commissioner Liz Hausmann, former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel, and City Council members Cori Davenport, Lenny Zaprowski, and Brad Raffensperger.
People sat under the 10,600-square-foot open-air amphitheater or relaxed in lawn chairs and blankets on the terraced lawn beyond. Many of the near-capacity crowd brought food and drinks in coolers or enjoyed a diversity of food from some of Atlanta's most popular food truck vendors.
The next concert in the 2014 Summer Concert Series
features A1A, a Jimmy Buffet tribute band, on Friday, July 18. On Aug. 23, Country Music fans can enjoy the talent of rising star, Shane O'Dazier.
