Transportation Master Plan
A short and long range Transportation Master Plan analyzing the City's transportation infrastructure was finalized November 2008. It is part of the Comprehensive Plan 2030.
Guided by input from Johns Creek citizens and business owners, the Transportation Master Plan will prepare the City for current and future demands on local and regional transportation.
The policies, supporting strategies and projects respond to the issues and opportunities identified by the community during the planning process.
Appendix B of the Community Agenda provides additional detail regarding these supporting recommendations and the relationship between the policies, issues and opportunities.
Facilitate safe and efficient movement of traffic along key corridors to minimize congestion.
- Improve connectivity to reduce congestion at critical intersections as development/redevelopment occurs.
- Provide necessary operation at key intersections to prevent bottlenecks from limiting overall capacity along roadways, including alternative intersection treatments where needed.
- Develop multi-modal circulation and loading area plans for all schools to reduce school related congestion.
Apply innovative approaches and technologies to improve mobility, safety and environmental quality.
- Utilize access management techniques to increase mobility, safety and interconnectivity.
- Continue development and application of Intelligent Transportation Systems and incident management technology.
- Promote state-of-the-art signal system technology.
- Promote travel demand management strategies to reduce trips.
- Encourage increased mixed-use development/redevelopment.
- Facilitate public-private funding partnerships for improvements.
- Coordinate with state, regional and local agencies responsible for environmental compliance and guidelines.
Enhance capacity along key corridors while preserving existing character of two-lane residential roads.
- Enhance roadway capacity along high demand corridors.
- Improve two-lane roads for efficient operations and safety.
- Preserve the current transportation investment through effective maintenance of the transportation system.
- Manage speed as appropriate to functional classification and adjacent land uses.
Connect the sidewalk and multi-use trail network to allow safe pedestrian and bicycle travel throughout Johns Creek.
- Provide sidewalk and multi-use trail improvements to facilitate pedestrian and bicycle access within one-half mile of all schools, libraries, parks and Chattahoochee River public use areas.
- Connect the sidewalk network to provide continuous sidewalk along all arterial and collector roads.
- Create a multi-use trail network based on the adopted Multi-Use Trail Plan to include connections to adjacent jurisdictions' facilities and the Chattahoochee River.
- Establish pedestrian and bicycle friendly policies and standards.
Explore public transportation options for commuter travel to the Atlanta core, airport and surrounding communities.
- Support GRTA, MARTA and GDOT efforts related to express transit service and commuter rail.
- Support regional bus rapid transit initiatives to connect to surrounding communities via State Bridge Road.
- Provide safe and secure parking to support multi-modal transit services.
Whenever possible, encourage interconnectivity.
- Promote continuation and extension of the street system and bicycle/pedestrian network.
- Increase network connectivity to accommodate demand between adjacent neighborhoods and developments without accessing the major thoroughfare system.
