The all-purpose police dogs of the Johns Creek Police K-9 Unit provide a crucial service to Uniform Patrol. They work various aspects of patrol, including:
- tracking
- apprehension
- narcotics
- building searches
- article searches
The dogs are titled German Shepherds from the Czech Republic, and come from a long line of dogs trained specifically to assist law enforcement personnel in their work.
The dogs began their training in the Czech Republic as puppies and then continued that training with their assigned JCPD handlers at a U.S. police/military canine school for five weeks before beginning their service to Johns Creek.
Sworn into office April 2009, the police dogs participate with their handlers in community education and outreach activities like narcotics demonstrations.
