A number of special units contribute to the Johns Creek Police Department's overall success in providing law enforcement, crime prevention, and safety.
The JCPD Bicycle Patrol works in teams of two in the city's parks, shopping centers and residential neighborhoods, to provide a more-familiar approach to law enforcement, and a number of advantages to the department's patrol abilities.
The all-purpose police dogs of the Johns Creek Police K-9 Unit provide a crucial service to Uniform Patrol, working various aspects of patrol, including: tracking; apprehension; narcotics; and buildings and article searches. The titled German Shepherds also participate with their handlers in community education and outreach activities like narcotics demonstrations.
Motorcycles provide a crucial mobility in the work of traffic safety in Johns Creek and are primarily responsible for helping reduce vehicle accidents. Law enforcement motorcyclists have advanced training in routine patrol safety, pursuits, and policing methods specifically related to all types of motor vehicles.
North Metro SWAT is a special weapons and tactics unit, formed in 2010 to serve the cities of Johns Creek, Sandy Springs and Dunwoody, Georgia. Made up of officers from each of the three cities, the team performs high-risk operations that fall outside of the training of other police officers.
The Johns Creek Police Traffic Safety Unit's highest priority is to ensure the safety of all those who use the city's streets and roadways, and reduce the number of vehicle accidents in the city. It is also responsible for the investigation of: hit and runs, serious injuries; fatality wrecks; DUI enforcement; traffic complaints; speed surveys; coordination of traffic control for special events; and traffic law enforcement.
