Johns Creek Municipal Court holds court 2 times a week. Each judge was appointed and approved by City Council.

Donald Schaefer, Chief Judge

Don Schaefer is in private practice in Roswell after 26+ years practicing in the Decatur law firm of Brownlow and Schaefer, specializing in traffic and criminal law, as well as wills and estates.

He served in the Atlanta City Court as a bailiff and clerk from 1980-86 and then as a Judge Pro Hac Vice from 1994-2003. In addition to Atlanta, he has been a part-time judge in Alpharetta, Loganville, and DeKalb Recorder's Court. He currently sits as judge in Johns Creek and Sandy Springs.

Schaefer is currently a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the North Fulton Bar Association and the Council of Municipal Court Judges.

Scott Carter, Judge Pro Tem

Scott Carter, in private practice in Chamblee since 2000, has been a Municipal Court Judge in the City of Doraville, Georgia for 18 years.

He worked with the Georgia board of Workers' Compensation from 1989 to 2000, first as a Staff Attorney, then Prosecuting Attorney, then Division Director. He served as the lead counsel/prosecutor for the Board's "Fraud and Compliance Division."

Carter received a law degree in 1988 from the Woodrow Wilson College of Law, with a BA in Psychology from University of West Georgia in 1981.

Carter is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Atlanta Bar Association and the Council of Municipal Judges.

Tony Day, Clerk of Court

Tony Day was appointed Clerk of Court in April 2007. As Clerk, Day is responsible for maintaining and protecting all Johns Creek Municipal Court records, collecting and disbursing all monies paid to the court, overseeing the operations of Court Services and the Traffic Violations Bureau, as well as all other duties of the court.

He began his court career in 1994 as a Deputy Clerk in the State Court of Cobb County and subsequently served as the Clerk of Court for the City of Acworth, Ga. In 2006 he established the Municipal Court of the City of Sandy Springs, Ga., following its incorporation and served as its Clerk of Court until joining the City of Johns Creek.

An Atlanta native, Day is a member of the Georgia Council of Court Administrators and the Georgia Municipal Court Clerks' Council.
