5th Annual Founders Day Parade, Dec. 3, 2011To celebrate the 5th anniversary of the City of Johns Creek, organizers of the Founders Day Parade are working to make the mile-long processional the most entertaining and fun event yet.

In the past, the Parade has featured the Wienermobile, NASCARs, the Wells Fargo stagecoach, the Marine Marching Band, and the Atlanta Braves mascot, Homer the Brave, as well as floats, high school marching bands, clowns, equestrians, and performing groups. In 2010, the Parade featured 85 units of all types, and parade organizers are hoping for more this year. About 2,000 people participated in the parade, and about 10,000 people watched.

"We anticipate lots of excitement with this being the 5th anniversary of the founding of the City," said City Council member and Parade Chairman Randall Johnson. "We want to play up that theme, which is why we're asking all floats to incorporate the 5th anniversary of the City in their design."

To secure a spot in the parade, please fill out an application and email it to , fax it to her at 678-512-3244, or drop it off at City Hall at 12000 Findley Rd. The deadline is Nov. 11. The parade is scheduled for Dec. 3.

Just remember that there can only be one Santa, and he's riding in the last vehicle. Also floats can't be more than 15 feet high, and groups are limited to 120 participants.

Organizers are also trying to line up exhibits and performers for Santa Jam, a community party at Johns Creek High School following the parade. For more information on Santa Jam, call the City Recreation and Parks Department at 678-512-3261.
