Johns Creek residents will be able to satisfy their appetite for locally grown fruits and vegetables starting July 9 when the Johns Creek Farmers Market opens at Newtown Park.
"The goal of the Johns Creek Farmer's Market is to encourage healthy living and increase our sense of community," said Recreation & Parks Manager Kirk Franz. "We will be providing our residents direct access to fresh, locally grown produce and goods."
The market will be set up July 9 in the parking lot near the Community Garden and the adult activity center. The market will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays until Sept. 10.
There will be space for 32 vendors, who will be required to sell locally grown produce that is certified organic, certified naturally grown or sustainably grown. Vendors will offer produce that's ripe and in season.
The Johns Creek Farmers Market will be managed by Green Team Farmers Markets, which coordinates farmers markets at Home Depot, Kimberly Clark, and LexisNexis corporate offices, and is a member of the Georgia Farmers Market Association.
City officials are exploring adding other events, such as live music, guest speakers, cooking demonstrations, as well as health, wellness and nutrition classes.
