Johns Creek offers new Smart 911 service for residents

1/14/2011

ChatComm call takerEvery second counts in an emergency, so Johns Creek is offering the new Smart 911 service for its residents through ChatComm, the city's 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Center.

Smart 911 provides Johns Creek residents with the ability to enter important information on a 100 percent private and secure website that will help first responders address any future emergency they may have.

Examples of information you can provide are:

  • Medical conditions / Physical Challenges
  • Children's photos
  • Your address
  • Emergency contacts
  • Location of bedrooms and number of people in your house
  • Pet information
  • Any other information, which you want to make sure police, fire or EMS are aware of.

The elderly, children, and physically and intellectually disabled have particularly benefited from the service in other U.S. cities which have adopted Smart911.

For example, if a senior citizen is disoriented or disabled, emergency responders can locate him/her without relying solely on over-the-phone questioning because they have a picture, address, and family contact information. Likewise, when a child is missing, if a photograph of that child has been included in the family's profile, it can be forwarded immediately to police officers in the field, saving critical minutes.

Here's how it works:  If you've subscribed to Smart 911, when you call 9-1-1, the information you've provided appears on the 9-1-1- call taker's screen. If the information is relevant to the 9-1-1 call, it is passed on to the first responders and can be sent directly to the mobile computers in the first responders' vehicles.

All information given to Smart911 is kept private and only shared with emergency operators and responders when you call 9-1-1.

Another feature of Smart911 is that if you're visiting Johns Creek and have an accident, your information would be available to our 9-1-1 operators if you've signed up for Smart911 where you reside.

Johns Creek residents interested in subscribing to Smart911 can sign up for FREE at smart911.com.
