Drunk driving crackdown: JCPD holiday road checks
12/28/2010
In support of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's holiday drunk driving crackdown, the Johns Creek Police Traffic Safety Unit will conduct road sobriety checks at undisclosed locations throughout the city during the New Year's holiday.
Drunk driving remains a leading cause of death and injury on U.S. roadways, particularly during the holiday season.
Last December, 753 people across the U.S. were killed in crashes that involved a drunk driver or motorcyclist with a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit of .08. Nearly a quarter of young males admitted to riding with someone who should not have been behind the wheel.
