Famed hotdog on wheels to spice up festive procession
10/30/2010
What looks good enough to eat, rides on four wheels and will be in the 4th Annual Johns Creek Founders Day Parade?
The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile!
The famed hot-dog-shaped car will be among the many fun vehicles, floats and bands participating in the 1.4-mile parade on Dec. 4. The Wienermobile was in the Founders Day Parade in 2008, delighting fans and hotdog aficionados lining the parade route.
"We're really excited that Johns Creek is a stop for the Wienermobile," said Hotdogger (driver) Kylie Nellis. "We're looking forward to spreading the good news with our visit there."
The Wienermobile was first introduced in 1936. It has a GPS system, an audio center with a wireless microphone, and a horn that plays the Oscar Mayer jingle in 21 different musical styles.
The current Wienermobile is 27 feet long, 11 feet high, and is made of custom-made fiberglass hotdog on a lightly toasted bun riding on a Chevrolet chassis. There are six Wienermobiles, each covering a specific region of the country. The one visiting Johns Creek will bear the license plate "Yummy." More Wienermobile info.
In the 2009 parade, 83 units drove, rode and marched in the parade to the delight of thousands of on-lookers. The parade is the climax of a week of festivities celebrating the founding of the City of Johns Creek on Dec. 1, 2006.
The deadline to register to be in the parade is Nov. 12 so there's still time to enter: Application form.
