disposing old paintIt's time to get rid of that old can of paint and insecticide that have been sitting in the garage all these years.

Johns Creek, Keep North Fulton Beautiful, and The Home Depot are sponsoring a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Nov. 6 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at The Home Depot on 5950 State Bridge Road in Johns Creek.

"A lot of people don't want to just throw toxic liquids and material in the landfill so they hang on it," said James Swope, Johns Creek Solid Waste manager. "This gives them an opportunity to dispose of it in an environmentally sound manner."

Materials accepted are:

  • Paints
  • Solvents and cleaners
  • Aerosols
  • Herbicides and pesticides
  • Motor oil and anti-freeze
  • Mercury
  • Batteries
  • TVs and electronics
  • Propane cylinders
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Smoke detectors

Unfortunately, the program cannot accept medical waste or needles, ammunition, pharmaceuticals, or non-hazardous items.

Pre-registration is required and space is limited! Only 10 gallons of paint per household can be accepted. The event is limited to Johns Creek residents, please.
