In just its second year of participating in Special Olympics Georgia's Law Enforcement Torch Run, the Johns Creek Police Department raised $57, 636, becoming the non-profit's top fundraiser in 2010.
"In two short years, the support of the Johns Creek Police Department has become invaluable to Special Olympics Georgia," said Director of Special Events Allison Kaczenski. "Through their tremendous dedication and volunteerism, they were able to raise an incredible amount of money – and awareness – for our 23,078 intellectually disabled athletes."
As the non-profit's top fundraiser, Johns Creek Police now have the honor of carrying in the Law Enforcement Torch during the opening ceremonies of Special Olympics Georgia's fall, winter and summer games.
Statewide, this year's Law Enforcement Torch Run raised a total of $650,154 for the non-profit. Hundreds of law enforcement agencies across the state participated with various fundraisers. Johns Creek Police hosted a golf tournament, celebrity chef dinner, and Cops on Shop donation drive.
Many Johns Creek businesses supported the Johns Creek Police in their fundraising efforts, including: CH2M HILL; Northside Hospital; Riley, McLendon, LLC; iXP Corporation; World Financial Group; CIBA Vision; Lowendick, Cuzdey, Ehrmann, Wagner, Stine, Sansalone and Bobe Law Firm; the Standard Club; and Rural Metro Corporation.
"Without the bigheartedness and generosity of the Johns Creek community, this wouldn't have been possible," said Major John Clifton. "We thank everyone who donated, volunteered, and came to our events. I know the athletes of Special Olympics Georgia truly appreciate your support."
