Corridor manager to help coordinate cities on Ga. 141

The state Department of Transportation has hired a consulting firm to monitor exclusively the heavily traveled road, officially Ga. 141, across multiple jurisdictions.

Jason Steiger of Wolverton & Associates has been tasked with scrutinizing traffic patterns, traffic light timing, checking on old traffic devices, and suggesting new ways to reduce congestion. Because he has a multi-city perspective, he can see how tweaking traffic systems in one city will benefit drivers down the road in another city. Steiger started in July.

The road runs through several cities, including Norcross, Duluth, Johns Creek and on into Forsyth County. In Johns Creek, it handles an average of 60,000 cars per day.

Having advocates for specific roads is part of a new $35 million state initiative to ensure that traffic plans around Metro-Atlanta work in concert instead of inadvertently against each other.
