Latest GDOT update on McGinnis and SR 141 projects

8/24/2010

road constructionGDOT has provided the following update for the McGinnis Ferry widening, McGinnis Ferry Bridge over the Chattahoochee, and SR 141 widening projects:

McGinnis Ferry Widening

We are continuing to make progress!

  • The contractor will shift traffic onto the new west bound lanes on August 26th from just west of the Chattahoochee River to Johns Creek Parkway (East). The shift will begin at 9:00 a.m. and be complete by 3:00 p.m. Police will direct traffic at all the signalized intersections within the shift area. Expect additional congestion while the shift is being put in place due to striping that must be installed.

  • The grading crew completed their work on the east end of the project from west of the Shakerag Trace subdivision entrance to the Forsyth County Soccer Fields. Curb and gutter was placed the week of August 9th. The asphalt paving crew started Aug. 16th and should complete all paving necessary for the upcoming traffic shift on the 26th.

  • The contractor's concrete crew continues to place sidewalk at various locations throughout the project.

  • The signal contractor is continuing to work on new signal installations at various locations on the project.

The scheduled completion date for this project is April 30, 2011.

McGinnis Ferry Bridge over the Chattahoochee

No changes. All work on the bridge is occurring in the river; nothing you can see by driving through. Work is progressing well in the river. Crews have been pouring the footings for the new bridge.

Currently there is no work happening on top of the bridge.

The scheduled completion date for this project is April 30, 2012.

SR 141 Widening

Work progresses. The contractor shifted traffic on Aug. 11th to the newly constructed lanes of SR 141 from Brookwood Road to Deer Lake Drive/Granite Lane. These lanes will become the southbound lanes when construction finishes. Both north and southbound 141 will use these lanes while the original lanes are removed and rebuilt. The grade will be lowered about six feet, improving sight distance along the corridor and allowing motorists a longer view of on-coming traffic and traffic on side streets.

This 6.5 mile long construction project is 90% complete. Weather permitting, CW Matthews Contracting plans to have SR 141 widened to four lanes and open to traffic by November 1, 2010. The official project completion date is December 31, 2010. CW Matthews Contracting, Inc. is the prime contractor.
