Mayor Mike BodkerJohns Creek Mayor Mike Bodker will represent North Fulton County on a board that will select multi-county transportation projects for voters to consider in a 2012 referendum.

A caucus of 14 Fulton County mayors last week elected Bodker and Union City Mayor Ralph Moore as the county's mayoral voice in picking transportation projects. Moore will join Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed as voting members, but the caucus directed Moore to consult with Bodker, who will serve in an advisory role.

"I plan to work hand in hand with my colleagues Mayor Moore and Mayor Reed to represent the interests of the cities of Fulton County," Bodker said. "We have some issues to resolve that will impact the success of the region for years to come."

Under legislation establishing the referendum, ten metro counties would be represented on a roundtable by the county commission chairman, and a mayor. Fulton County was the exception, allowed a county chairman, Atlanta Mayor Reed, plus another mayor.

The referendum will allow voters in the 10-county region to pay a one-cent sales tax to cover the cost of the transportation projects. The tax would remain in place for 10 years. Between the tax and federal matching funds, officials expect to raise $10 billion to $12 billion.

Bodker also serves on the Atlanta Regional Commission, the ARC's Transportation and Air Quality Committee, and the Metropolitan Atlanta Mayors Association's Regional Transit Committee.
