Latest GDOT update on McGinnis and SR 141 projects
6/29/2010
GDOT has provided the following update for the McGinnis Ferry widening, McGinnis Ferry Bridge over the Chattahoochee, and SR 141 widening projects:
McGinnis Ferry Widening
A grading crew continues to work on the west end of the project from the culvert at Johns Creek towards (SR141) Medlock Bridge Road on the right side of the project. Grading operations include excavating cut material to place in fills for the new eastbound lanes. A crew has also started to lay storm drain in this area.
The contractor's concrete crew continues to place curb and gutter throughout the project. Sidewalk placement will follow.
The contractor's asphalt paving crew started paving operations on the project June 21st. Paving operations started at the Blackstone subdivision entrance and continue eastbound to just west of the Chattahoochee River on the south side of the project. Paving operations will begin at 7 p.m. each night and continue until 5 a.m. the next morning. The work will be performed from Monday nights through Saturday nights and will take approximately two to three weeks, depending on the weather.
This is a noisy, but moving, operation. Noise outside your subdivision or home will not last too long as the operation moves down the roadway. Trucking companies have also been asked to be mindful of the work hours and try to keep noise to a minimum.
The signal contractor is continuing to work on new signal installations at various project locations.
A traffic shift is scheduled for July 8th and should start around 10:00 a.m.
The only long range milestone is the scheduled July traffic shift. The contractor continues to work six 10 hour days every week weather permits and has no plans to stop working this schedule.
Crews are working in all areas of the project on various activities.
The scheduled completion date for this project is April 30, 2011.
McGinnis Ferry Bridge over the Chattahoochee
No change from the last update: GDOT is working to approve a subcontractor for the caissons so the actual bridge work should resume in late July.
The scheduled completion date for this project is April 30, 2012.
SR 141 Widening
On June 22nd an additional southbound lane was opened to Brookwood/Mathis Airport Road, allowing two lanes in each direction from State Route 9 to Brookwood/Mathis Airport Road. We now have 4.8 miles of 4-lane open.
This 6.5 mile long construction project is 84% complete. Weather permitting, CW Matthews Contracting plans to have State Route 141 widened to four lanes throughout the project and open to traffic by November 1, 2010. The official project completion date is December 31, 2010. CW Matthews Contracting, Inc. is the prime contractor on this 6.5 mile long project.
