6/18/2010

road constructionGDOT has provided the following update for the McGinnis Ferry widening, McGinnis Ferry Bridge over the Chattahoochee, and SR 141 widening projects:

McGinnis Ferry Widening

  • A grading crew moved to the west end of the project last week to resume work from the culvert at Johns Creek towards (S.R.141 ) Medlock Bridge Road on the north side of the project. Grading operations include excavating cut material to place in fills for new east bound lanes. A crew has also started to lay storm drain in this area.

  • The contractor's concrete crew continues to place curb and gutter throughout the project. Sidewalk placement will follow.

  • The contractor's asphalt paving crew will mobilize to the project on June 21st, weather permitting. Paving operations will start at the Blackstone subdivision entrance and continue eastbound to just west of the Chattahoochee River on the south side of the project. Paving operations will be at night.

  • The signal contractor is continuing to work on new signal installations at various project locations.

  • A traffic shift scheduled for the last of June will occur the middle of July as paving on S.R. 141 lasted a couple weeks longer than planned due to poor weather.

  • The only long range milestone is the scheduled traffic shift in July. The contractor continues to work six 10 hour days on this project every week weather permits and has no plans to stop working this schedule.

  • Crews are working in all areas of the project on various activities.

The scheduled completion date for this project is April 30, 2011.

Weather permitting, the additional southbound lane will open on June 21st to Brookwood/Mathis Airport Road, allowing two lanes in each direction from State Route 9 to Brookwood/Mathis Airport Road.

This 6.5 mile long construction project is 84% complete. Weather permitting, CW Matthews Contracting plans to have State Route 141 widened to four lanes and open to traffic by November 1, 2010. The official project completion date is December 31, 2010. CW Matthews Contracting, Inc. is the prime contractor on this 6.5 mile long project.
