JCPD raises $59,000 for Special Olympics
Golf Tournament tops year of fundraisers

The 2nd annual JCPD Special Olympics Golf Tournament, May 17, brought out CH2M HILL's John Mantay, left, and Natalie Eldredge, Community Development Director Mike Williams, Police Chief Ed Densmore, Major John Clifton, Program Director Buzz Boehm, former Atlanta Braves pitcher Tom Glavin, Northside Hospital Community Relations Manager Kelli Buchwald, Mayor Mike Bodker, and Council member Randall Johnson.
Thanks to the volunteer efforts of Johns Creek Police officers – and the generous support of the Johns Creek community – a total of $59,000 was raised during the JCPD's second fundraising campaign for Special Olympics Georgia, a non-profit that supports the intellectually disabled.
"Our goal for this year was $50,000, and we passed that and doubled our number from last year, so it's pretty amazing, especially in this economy," said Major John Clifton. "It certainly wouldn't have happened without the generosity of our community and continued support from business leaders across North Fulton."
The fundraising began last fall with a dinner benefit featuring Buckhead Life Restaurant Group's top chefs. Next was the Polar Plunge at Lake Lanier in February. Then, earlier this month, "Cops on Shop," a round-the-clock event, was held at the Medlock Crossing Shopping Center.
"We had a 'mystery donor' this year. A man put four, hundred dollar bills in the bucket at each of our three stations. That was a whopping $1,200 from one person, who didn't want any credit. It made a big impression on us," said Clifton.
The year of fundraising was capped off May 17 with the 2nd annual JCPD Special Olympics Golf Tournament, co-hosted by CH2M HILL and Northside Hospital, at the Standard Club in Johns Creek.
"We want to thank, again, the many business leaders and bighearted members of the community who came out to play. A special thanks to the gracious Tom Glavine," said Clifton.
The golf tournament was sponsored by: Riley, McClendon, LLC; iXP Corporation; Tilted Kilt; World Financial Group; Ciba Vision; Lowendick, Cuzdey, Ehrmann, Wagner, Stine, Sansalone and Bobe Law Firm; Rural Metro Corporation; Compelling Signs; Dermatology Center of Atlanta/Dr. Leslie Gray; Dr. Leslie S. Gaskill; Gresham, Smith and Partners; Meineke Car Center; Park 'N Ticket; Red Rabbit; SunGard Public Sector; and Universal Restoration Services.
