Autrey Mill celebrates annual Heritage Day
5/17/2010
Old-fashioned games, food and music were part of Autrey Mill Nature Preserve & Heritage Center's annual down-home celebration, Saturday, March 15.
Visitors enjoyed tours of the historic building, learned proper tea etiquette, and tried their hand at churning butter, as they "stepped back" into time to the 1800s for a few hours.
The property, now a 46-acre preserve protected from development, has changed from woodlands inhabited only by the Cherokees... to fertile farmland worked by early settlers... and back to dense woodlands with trails and a heritage village for the community to enjoy today.
