Move will save thousands, increase public participation

The City Council, which set the election date during its May 10 meeting, will continue to function with its six remaining members. A quorum remains at four members.
The City saves thousands of dollars and ensures greater voter turnout by waiting until the date of the general election in November rather than holding it on possible election dates in July or September.
Qualifying will be Monday, Aug. 30 and Friday, Sept. 3 between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the City Clerk's Office at City Hall, 12000 Findley Road. The qualifying fee for the City Council seat is $450.
Each candidate must meet the qualifications of the city charter and code. In the event no candidate receives a majority of the votes cast, a run-off election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 30 between the candidates receiving the two highest numbers of votes.
