About $1.175 million will help fill some gaps in sidewalks
4/29/2010

sidewalkThe money will be spent on trails, bicycle connections, bus shelters, landscaping, signage and other scenic improvements within a half-mile radius of bus stops in the city. It also will offer improved access to mass transit for people with disabilities.

Sidewalk gaps to be filled include:

  • The eastern shoulder of Medlock Bridge Road from Old Alabama Road to Findley Road, about 2.2 miles

  • The southern shoulder of Bell Road between Medlock Bridge Road and Chatburn Way, about a quarter mile.

  • Both shoulders of Abbotts Bridge Road west of Medlock Bridge Road up to the Standard Club entrance, 1,000 feet.

  • The northern shoulder of Findley Road from Standard Court to Medlock Bridge Road (multi-use trail), about a half-mile.

Other improvements being planned include bus shelters and amenities like benches and trash receptacles, plus signage, landscaping, and streetlights.

Georgia Regional Transportation Authority operates bus routes to and from the Doraville MARTA Station and the Johns Creek Technology Park. The six bus stops are located at:

  • Emory Johns Creek Hospital
  • Johns Creek Parkway south of East Johns Crossing (State Farm)
  • Johns Creek Parkway North of Lakefield Drive (Ciba Vision / Johns Creek Tech Park)
  • Medlock Bridge just south of Abbots Bridge Road (Abbotts Bridge Shopping Center)
  • Medlock Bridge just south of Medlock Bridge Parkway Road
  • Medlock Bridge just south of State Bridge Road (State Bridge Corners Shopping Center)

MARTA needed money for operating the mass transit system. So, MARTA traded $25 million in capital money to the Atlanta Regional Commission, which gave MARTA $25 million in stimulus money to use for operations. Some of that was split among the communities MARTA serves. Johns Creek's portion, based on population, is $1.175 million.
