City Councilwoman Liz Hausmann on April 26 announced her resignation to run for a Fulton County Commission seat being vacated by incumbent Lynne Riley.
"It has been a privilege to serve with each of you on the first Johns Creek City Council and to lay the foundation for the great city that is our home," Hausmann said during a council meeting.
Hausmann, 51, is one of the original seven Johns Creek Council members elected in November 2006. The city will leave the seat unfilled until a special election. A date for the special election has yet to be determined.
When state Rep. Mark Burkhalter (R-Johns Creek) announced his resignation, Riley said she would run for his open seat.
A Republican, Hausmann also served on the Fulton County Board of Education from 2003 until her election to the Johns Creek City Council.
"Liz brought experience and insight into government," said City Councilwoman Bev Miller. "She was a valuable member of the council and she will be missed."
