On April 24, Johns Creek residents and businesses can get rid of old cell phones, computers, and batteries that people hate to throw away because they're bad for the environment.

As part of the Earth Day Celebration with Whole Foods Market and Keep North Fulton Beautiful, the City is sponsoring a chance to dispose of old electronics free of charge.

A recycling firm will disassemble the electronics, recycle the plastic and precious metals, and dispose of the toxic parts that can leach into the ground in landfills.

People can also bring sensitive documents to be shredded. The paper scraps will be recycled.

There also will be demonstrations on using and installing rain barrels, and how to create your own worm-composting bin.

The event will be at Whole Foods Market, 5945 State Bridge Road from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Schedule of events:

  • Electronics Recycling:  11 a.m.–3 p.m.
Bring unwanted electronics, including computers, cell phones, monitors, printers, cables, batteries, laptops, and accessories to be recycled. No televisions or microwaves please.
