To promote Meals on Wheels, Mayor Mike Bodker presents a pre-cooked, nutritious meal to Alice D. Thompson, 80, as Lou Ann Kraus of Senior Services North Fulton watches.
Mayor Mike Bodker presented a prepared meal of pork chops, potatoes and cheddar cheese, and mustard greens to 80-year-old Alice D. Thompson this week as part of Mayors for Meals.
"I want to show support for a needed and wonderful service program in our community, a program that ensures seniors nutritionally balanced meals so they remain a healthy part of our community," Bodker said.
The nationwide event is designed to highlight Meals on Wheels, a program that provides meals to seniors and shut-ins. The meals were cooked by Open Hand, a non-profit.
Afterward, Mayor Bodker chatted with Thompson, a retired teacher and principal, for more than an hour.
The senior services agency also provides Thompson with transportation and twice-a-month housecleaning assistance.
"These three agencies make it possible for me as independent as I can be," Thompson said.
