Johns Creek Fire Department Capt. Cam Huynh, center, celebrates his 'Firefighter of the Quarter' award with his
team from Station 61,Shift A.

A native of South Vietnam, Huynh grew up in Hawaii and other spots around the world as his father, a U.S. Marine, was posted to different assignments. Joining the U.S. Navy in 1989, he got his first taste of being a firefighter when he was assigned to an aircraft carrier, where everyone on board has to complete basic firefighting training. He made the decision then to pursue a career as a firefighting professional.

"I've known Capt. Huynh for 14 years and there's no finer firefighter anywhere. He's a natural leader who has the respect of his fellow firefighters. Also, he's a training perfectionist, so his team is a 'well-oiled machine,'" said Daniels.

Joining the Macon, Ga., Fire Department in 1996, Huynh served there three years before joining the Fulton County Fire Department in 1996 and the Sandy Springs, Ga., Fire Department in 2006. With the October 2008 launch of the Johns Creek Fire Department, he signed on as a member of its inaugural squad.

"It's an honor, of course, for people to think I do a good job and I appreciate the recognition. But the real honor for me is simply coming to work every day to do a job I love and to work with the dedicated individuals in our department," said Huynh, who is based at Station 61 with Shift A.

An EMT I since 2001, Huynh focuses on technical rescue training.

The Johns Creek Firefighter of the Quarter and Year awards are sponsored by BB&T Bank on State Bridge Road in Johns Creek.
