GDOT plans lane shift for McGinnis Ferry project
Work to focus on eastern portion near 'Hooch
1/22/2010
The Georgia Department of Transportation reports that near the end of January or middle of February, contractor C.W. Matthews plans to shift traffic on the east end of the McGinnis Ferry Road project. The shift will start just west of the Chattahoochee and continue west just past the Forsyth County Soccer Fields, where traffic will shift back onto the existing mainline. This shift will allow Matthews' crews to construct the new east bound lanes.
The majority of the work over the next two to three months will occur on the eastern end of the project near the river. No work will be occurring on the Sargent Road side of the project until May or June due to extremely wet conditions in the area.
Grading and placement of storm drain continues at various other locations on the project. The project is still scheduled to be completed at the end of April, 2011 and the contractor seems to be on schedule to meet this date, according to GDOT.
Bridge widening
The project to widen the bridge over the Chattahoochee is still in the utility relocation stage and is ahead of schedule. Clearing is scheduled to begin in the next few weeks. This project is still scheduled to be completed at the end of April 2012. No lane closures are allowed between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. during the week.
