Government finance group recognizes JC report
12/18/2009
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada recently recognized the City of Johns Creek's comprehensive annual financial report with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of government finance and reporting, according to the GFOA, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
As a new city, this is the first time Johns Creek has submitted its CAFR to the GFOA for consideration. The award recognizes Finance Director Monte Vavra, who was primarily responsible for preparing the report.
The CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its finance story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
"The City of Johns Creek was founded on the principles of transparency, responsiveness and fiscal responsibility," Mayor Mike Bodker said. "This recognition is another confirmation that we are living up to those principles. I thank and congratulate Monte and City Manager John Kachmar on this noteworthy achievement."
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals.
