Johns Creek promotes firefighters; swears-in new hires

The Johns Creek Fire Department promoted four firefighters and inducted four new firefighters into the year-old department during an official ceremony Nov. 28 at Fire Station 61.
"All of these firefighters bring outstanding practical and career experience to our department. The individuals promoted are solid leaders and are accepting important key management positions. And our new hires are already demonstrating their commitment to the City of Johns Creek," said Fire Chief Joseph Daniels.

Lt. Curtis Walther, Capt. Matthew Broderick, Training Chief Chris Coons, Sgt. Greg Stubbs, Assistant chiefs Greg Ramey and Pat Wilson, and Chief Joseph Daniels.
Capt. Chris Coons, a native of Lawrenceville, Ga., was promoted to training chief. A firefighter for 16 years, he is also a paramedic, hazardous materials specialist /instructor and technical rescue technician. Additionally, Coons serves as a weapons of mass destruction instructor for the Department of Homeland Security.
Lt. Matthew Broderick was promoted to captain, bringing 19 years of experience to his new position. A native of New York City, he served with the New York Fire Department and DeKalb County Fire before joining Johns Creek in 2008. He is also an emergency medical technician.
Sgt. Curtis Walther, originally from Marietta, Ga., was promoted to lieutenant. He has 12 years of fire service experience, most recently with the Atlanta Fire Department, and is a paramedic.
A native of Atlanta, Firefighter II Gregory Stubbs was promoted to sergeant. He joined the department with its launch in October 2008, having served previously with the Atlanta Fire Department. He's been a firefighter for 13 years and is also a paramedic.

Assistant Chief Greg Ramey, Firefighter I Brandon Kingrey, Firefighter II James Maguire, Firefighter II Westen Langston, Firefighter I Geoffrey Garcia, Chief Joseph Daniels and Assistant Chief Pat Wilson.
Firefighter II James Maguire, a native of Elgin, Ill., brings five years of experience to the department, most recently with DeKalb County. He holds a B.S. from Chapman University in Orange, Calif., and is an EMT-1. He will earn his paramedic certification in June 2010.
Originally from Jacksonville, Fla., Westen Langston joins the department as a Firefighter II. He has 11 years of fire service experience, most recently with DeKalb County. Langston is an EMT 1.
A native of Sandy Springs, Ga., Geoffrey Garcia joins the JCFD as a Firefighter I. He served in the infantry with the U.S. Marines for four years before joining Fulton County Fire in 2003 and DeKalb County Fire in 2006. Garcia is an EMT I.
Originally from Bluffton, Ind., Brandon Kingrey, joins the department as a Firefighter I. He served three years with the City of Gainesville (Ga.) Fire Department. Kingrey is an EMT-l.
