Johns Creek Firefighters Josh Elliott, Carlos Garcia and Chris Barney get ready to help the Badger brothers from Alpharetta pick out their favorite toys at the 2009 annual "Shop with Cop."
Johns Creek firefighters took to the shopping aisles Wednesday evening, Dec. 8, to participate in this year's Alpharetta Police Athletic/Activities League "Shop with Cop" to benefit needy children in North Fulton.
Assistant Fire Chief Pat Wilson and firefighters Chris Barney, Carlos Garcia and Josh Elliot helped several of the 85 children, who came with their parents to the Wal-Mart on Windward Parkway in Alpharetta for the 11th annual event.
Organized by PAL with assistance from social workers at area public schools, "Shop with Cop" lets each participating child pick out his or her desired holiday gifts – totaling $100 – while accompanied by a police officer or firefighter.
"It really makes you feel good inside knowing that you can help someone less fortunate than you are. The kids were really great and I am looking forward to Christmas 2010," said Wilson.
Police and firefighters from Milton, Alpharetta and Johns Creek participated in this year's event. Sponsors included the Alpharetta Rotary Club, CH2M Hill and Wal-Mart.
"It's my favorite night of the year. I love seeing the happy faces on these kids," said Jim Smith, store manager. "I wouldn't miss it for anything."
