Fulton County on Friday joined the list of metro Atlanta counties declared federal disaster areas in the wake of recent severe storms and flooding, meaning residents and business owners are eligible for individual assistance.
Low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration are available to cover residential and business losses not fully covered by insurance. Grants and other resources also are available to residents and business owners to cover payment for temporary housing, home repairs and other flood loss-related expenses.
Residents and business owners can begin applying for assistance by registering online at the Federal Emergency Management Administration's Web site or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7575 (TYY) for the hearing and speech impaired. The toll-free numbers will operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
Consult FEMA's Federal Aid Programs for Georgia Disaster Recovery for a complete list of the assistance available and how to apply for it. Also see What Happens After You Call FEMA.
DisasterAssistance.gov is another web resource you can use. It provides consolidated disaster assistance information and can help speed the application process.
