McGinnis left-turn lane returning at Tech Park entrance

9/1/2009

The Georgia Department of Transportation has notified the city that it intends to return the left turn lane on McGinnis Ferry Road at the Technology Park entrance.

A recent traffic shift as part of the extensive, on-going project resulted in the loss of the turn lane, which in turn caused significant issues for drivers. GDOT officials reviewed the situation and agreed to return the turn lane. Work will be conducted Thursday night and Friday morning, and it is expected that the lane will be available for use by Friday afternoon, Sept. 4.

While addressing this critical condition involving heavy traffic utilizing this turn, GDOT officials acknowledge that many subdivision entrances along this shift also have lost left-turn lanes. This is due to placing traffic on the new roadway that is two lanes wide while the existing roadway is removed and reconstructed so the new curb and gutter is installed. This work leaves no room to provide temporary left turn lanes. The situation will remain for up to a year while the new section is constructed, they say.
