Alert: Increased weekday traffic when new high school opens, Aug. 10

State Bridge/Medlock Bridge intersection to see greater volume
7/31/2009

School BusWeekday commuters traveling through the intersection of Medlock Bridge Road/GA 141 and State Bridge Road should be prepared for increased traffic volume and possible delays when Fulton County Schools return to class Monday, August 10.

The new Johns Creek High School opens that day at 5575 State Bridge Road just west of this intersection and is expected to impact traffic with additional vehicles – including school buses – during morning and afternoon weekday commutes throughout the school year.

School officials say school traffic will use three access points for both arrivals and dismissals: a traffic signal immediately in front of the school on State Bridge Road (east and west bound); State Bridge Road (west bound); and Medlock Bridge Road (south bound).

Classes at the new high school start at 8:35 a.m. and end at 3:25 p.m. Traffic is expected to be heaviest between 7:30-8:45 a.m. and 3:30-4:30 p.m., particularly during the first few weeks of school.

Commuters are advised to allow plenty of time to travel through the intersection and the surrounding vicinity during these times.

Additionally, this academic year's school redistricting by Fulton County Schools will bring new bus routes and traffic patterns for students attending different schools than in the past.

Johns Creek Police and Public Works will be closely observing the impact the new high school and redistricting may have on traffic and working with school officials and the Fulton County Schools Transportation Department to address any traffic concerns.
