The Metro Atlanta Mayor's Association recently re-elected Johns Creek Mayor Mike Bodker as its 2009-10 chairman during the Georgia Municipal Association's Annual Convention in Savannah.

MAMA, formed in 2003 to increase communications between cities in the metro Atlanta region, consists of mayors from the 68 cities in 10 counties in the metro area. The association supports policy decisions that are beneficial to local governments, organizes activities among the cities that are beneficial to the region and relates needs to federal, state and regional agencies and residents.

"I was proud to have had the opportunity over the last year to drive more energy into this vital organization and to stress the importance of the metro region to the rest of the state," Bodker said.

"This year, I want us to continue our open dialog with our state's leaders as we work together to find solutions to our most pressing problems such as transportation and water, as well as protecting the health of local governments," Bodker continued. "I also want to see MAMA reach beyond our state borders to ensure that metro issues are heard and hopefully helped by our federal officials as well."

The Johns Creek mayor is the first to serve two consecutive terms as MAMA chair. The association amended its bylaws last fall to allow for consecutive service.

Bodker also serves as Chairman of GMA's Revenue and Finance Policy Committee. In addition, he is a member the Atlanta Regional Commission's Transportation & Air Quality Committee and served as a member of the 2009 State Senate Local Sales Tax Collection Study Committee. Most recently, he was named to the U.S. Conference of Mayors' International Affairs and Metro Economies committees.
